Sime Darby London Ltd (SDLL)
Sime Darby is a Malaysian company listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange. The company is a diversified conglomerate with main businesses in plantations, property, motor vehicle distribution, industrial, energy/utilities and healthcare.
The company began its association with Bognor Regis in 1994 when it acquired Lec Refrigeration plc. A huge investment of over £35 million was made to build a new state-of-the-art factory occupying about 300,000 sq. ft. on the 12-acre New Era Estate. Sadly, despite the efforts of Sime Darby and the Lec team over a period of 10 years to improve Lec's fortunes, the company did not thrive, and was sold in 2005 to Glen Dimplex.
SDLL retained ownership of the land occupied by Lec in Bognor Regis:
- The New Era Estate (12 acres),
- The former Lec Refrigeration site covering about 10 acres, and
- The former Airfield of about 46 acres.
SDLL has completed the sale of the Lec Airfield at Shripney Road, Bognor Regis to a local company. This marks the end of SDLL's involvement in the former Lec landholdings which it purchased from Lec Refrigeration plc in 2004. Click here for more information
